| Smith River |
The Smith River provides the angler with the most incredible wilderness fly fishing adventure available in the west. For more than sixty miles, this amazing river flows through a breathtaking limestone canyon. Come float with us through the peace and solitude of the Big Sky country while enjoying superb fly fishing for wild browns and rainbows.
The highest quality equipment and meticulous attention to detail assures your comfort during this multi-day wilderness float trip. Our seasoned guides will instruct the beginner and are dedicated to making every trip a memorable one.
Our gear boat and freighters will be one step ahead setting up a comfortable camp for you in the most picturesque campsites imaginable. Delicious hors d"oeuvres and your favorite beverage await your arrival after the days float. Enjoy a refreshing swim or hike to a scenic overlook before sitting down to a superbly prepared Western meal featuring fresh salads, entrees such as chicken kebabs or steaks grilled over an open fire and Apple Dapple cake baked in a Dutch oven. After dinner take time to fish the evening hatch or relax around the camp fire. Wake up to the smell of fresh coffee and the awesome sight of the sunrise illuminating the limestone cliffs near camp.
After a hearty breakfast you'll be ready for another great day of floating and fishing the seemingly endless miles of premium trout water the Smith offers.
Beautiful pools along the cliffs where trout line up to rise in the foam lines, easy to fish riffles, exciting pocket water and classic hopper banks are there in abundance. Many clients consider the Smith to be their favorite river because of its rugged beauty and great fishing. This is a rich river with a variety of hatches ranging from salmonflies to tricos. Fish over 20 inches are released every trip! We emphasize minimum impact camps, as well as catch and release fishing with barbless flies. The Smith is the only river in Montana with a limited number of launches available to private and outfitted floaters. This assures a quality fishing experience unmatched anywhere in the West. We are one of the limited number of outfitters permitted by both the National Forest Service and the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and parks to outfit on the Smith River. We have one of the larger allocations of launches, so you are assured of a prime date for your trip.
